About
After a some decades of dancing and fashion-ing in various locations around the world, my fascination of the body in motion evolved into CORPOVEILLANCE. This original term also (coincidentally?) forms part of my doctoral thesis title.
I use this background and education for projects across:
- immersive art + interactive experiences
- artistic direction + choreography
- academic research
- research consulting
- design + strategy consulting
BIO
Dr Nigel Guérin-Garnett is an interdisciplinary creative practitioner, researcher and artistic director in digital performance and design with/on/around/through the body. This centres around the practices, research, R&D, and industrial applications of digital technologies - including AI - within performing arts (chiefly dance and choreography) and design (particularly fashion, textiles and materials), but also encompasses the performance of systems and processes designed for creative outputs. His practice draws from 20 years of contemporary dance and fashion industry experience across Canada, the US, France, the UK, China and Taiwan. In parallel, Nigel is also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the inaugural research lab at ESMOD Paris where he focusses on Creative Innovation, Bodies and Technologies. He also co-founded an artist collective based across Scotland, England and France whose work currently focusses on immersive experience.
Prior to his years in fashion, he danced professionally after graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University’s programme (formerly Ryerson) in Dance Performance, under the direction of former National Ballet of Canada principal Nadia Potts. Cathartically, the two worlds ultimately collided during his Masters degree at Kingston School of Art in London, culminating in 344|142, a piece meshing live performance with video projections that he choreographed and production designed for four dancers. The outcome won him a university award, funding the entire production.
